SWOV

About

SWOV, the Netherlands' foremost road safety research institute, hosts a digital library with 150,000 international publications. Despite its global popularity, users feel overwhelmed and struggle to find specific content. I redesigned the publication page to enhance user experience, focusing on efficient search methods and user-friendly features. The redesign aims to make SWOV's wealth of knowledge more accessible, aligning with the institute's commitment to promoting road safety through easily navigable resources.

Key Challenge
Integrating a powerful search method without overwhelming the user, while aligning with the institute's commitment to promoting road safety through easily navigable resources.

Conclusion

Due to the challenges of locating real users of SWOV and unavailability with the client, I decided to test my initial high-fi prototype with general users. This testing phase proved to be invaluable as it provided me with fresh insights. Impressively, the majority of users expressed positive impressions about the new design and also suggested additional features. Despite SWOV being a Dutch scientific institute for road safety research, the client informed me that their user base is international and they have a substantial number of English publications. During the testing process, I encountered an English-speaking user who found it somewhat difficult to navigate through English documents mixed with Dutch content in the results. Another user expressed curiosity about the possibility of filtering by file type and volume, as it would greatly benefit their needs.
